 I followed the course from chaos to art... (from "The Book of Longing") Works by Leonard Cohen Leonard (Norman) Cohen was born in Montreal in 1934. His literary career began with the publication of his first book of poetry, Let Us Compare Mythologies, in 1956. During the 1960s, four books of poetry established his reputation as one of the leading Canadian poets, along with his two novels; particularly the second, Beautiful Losers, made him one of the originators of postmodern literature. In 1966 Cohen turned to making records for Columbia, releasing seventeen albums so far. He continued his work in literature, although at a slower pace, publishing another three books of poetry between 1972 and 1984, but of a more conceptual nature, and the selection of his best poems and song lyrics in 1993. |
